Safe is a wise investment to keep small and valuable items like jewelries. It’s a much better alternative to hiding it as experienced burglars know where to look.

All good safes will have UL (Underwriters Laboratories) ratings and it rates the level of protection of a safe. These ratings determine how fire-resistant and durable a safe is. It also indicates whether a safe can survive a 30-foot impact, which simulates a fall of three stories. In a fire, a safe may fall through the floor, break open, and spill the contents you are seeking to protect.

Class C Safe

Protects paper documents for up to 1 hour at temperatures up to 1700°F

Class B Safe

Protects paper documents for up to 2 hours at temperatures up to 1850°F

Class A Safe

Protects paper documents for up to 4 hours at 2000°F.

Below are some of the things to take into consideration before getting a safe.

1) Size
Safes are a long-term investment, it is important to get a sense for what you will need to protect, both now and in the future, before you choose a model. It can be helpful to have the measurements of the largest item you will place in the safe to get a sense for the minimum dimensions you can accept.

2) Media safes
Media safes are safes that are specifically designed to protect disks and other audio/visual equipment such as CDs and cassette tapes because they are more fragile than paper documents. Diskettes, for example, can be ruined easily and require humidity below a certain level. Because of the special requirement needed, media safes tend to be very expensive.

3) Safe installation
Make sure the safe is embedded into something that is not easily carried away. Depending on the size of the safe, a small safe can sometimes be carried away by the burglars to be crack somewhere else. A safe should be installed into the wall or the floor. For maximum effect, place the safe in concrete, the safe will not only be highly burglar resistant but will also be beyond the reach of most fires. This is a slightly expensive method but for a less expensive method, bolt a safe to the floor.

4) Locks
Cheaper safes come with locks that are not particularly effective against an experienced burglar but for greater security, opt for electronic and digital locks that can cost up to $350 but comes with the guarantee that the codes are nearly impossible to crack.

5) Price
Buy a safe that suits your needs. There’s no point buying huge safe just to store a few documents. In most cases, a class B or C safe is fine for adequately protecting irreplaceable papers.

A driveway alarm helps to protect your car and outdoor driveway area from would be thieves. Other than protecting your car, it also helps to prevent the driveway from being used as an access point to your home. One of the most used access point to your house by thieves is the driveway and it serve much sense to protect this area well.

The idea is to make this area very difficult to gain access to. When a criminal cannot reach the targeted object, there is simply no way for the item to be stolen. Similarly, if an object that is disturbed as it may be during an attempted break in, makes some sort of alert to let you know what is going on, this make theft less likely. With a driveway alarm you can be extra sure that no one is going to get in to your garage or driveway, not to mention home, without you noticing it.

Take the time to do some research on the different models of driveway alarms in order to determine the pros and cons of the various types and services. Every home and driveway have unique set ups and designs. If you don’t take the time to consider which alarm system will best meet your needs, you may wind up having to replace the system shortly after you buy it. It’s much better to take the time and effort to research and discover which alarms have worked the best for others.

Factors to consider when choosing a driveway alarm:

* The maximum transmission distance of the transmitter. Big driveway will need transmitter with longer transmission distance as most likely the receiver is located far away.

* The type of driveway alarm
- A hose that a car or other heavy vehicle may run over
- A magnetic probe that may be hidden and will only detect metallic vehicles
- A wireless beam that will detect cars as well as people and animals

* Are there any trees between the location of the transmitter and receiver ? If so are the trees a dense forest or sparse or somewhere in between? The denser the forest the less the transmission distance.

* The construction of your home – Is it a mobile home, does it have aluminum or steel siding, is it constructed of stucco, does it have paper backed insulation or foil insulation?

* Are there transformers nearby – pad mounted or pole mounted may interfere with the transmission/reception of the signal

When searching the internet, it helps to include phrases like “customer reviews” in your search terms. This will help you narrow down shopping sites that feature customer reviews and ratings about driveway alarms.
